Idiots
So I found this bronze statue in goodwill by accident. I saw a carved ebony bird which was intersting(?), when I notices a silver statue sitting next to it. It has too much detail and character to be some super mass produced garbage like you would find at Homegoods. I picked it up, and it was heavy. I though, this has to be a 'bronze'. Sure enough, I scratched the uneven silver paint off with my thumb nail. My next though was "what idiot would spray paint a bronze statue". The character and patina of a bronze statue is awe inspiring, yet someone out there thought "Hey you know what would make this better? A top coat coat of silver flake." I managed to get most of the paint off without damaging the underlining patina. It feels good to know that I saved this piece of art, and will cherish it.

Curbside Pickup
I was with my friends driving thought town on the way to pick apples. When we see what looks like a garage sale, and out in front is a molded plywood chair. I say "IS THAT A HERMAN MILLER CHAIR?". I whip the car to the side (the quality of the parking was questionable). We dash across the street. When we get there we see that it is not a garage sale, but these guys are clearing out a building, and throwing everything out!!!!!!!!! They said we could take whatever we wanted. Turns out it wasn't a herman miller chair, but a similar looking Plycraft chair designed by George Mulhauser. We also picked up a fiberglass Origami chair by Paul McCobb, a painting/montage by S.Hall(no idea who this is), and two midcentury modern rosewood and naugahyde bench/coffee tables/ottomans. Whoever originally bought this furniture had great taste.

Early American Modern Arm Chair
I have been eyeing this early modern American armchair at the goodwill outlet for 3 weeks. It was is discusting shape. The vinyl was caked in dirt and dust, and the lower cusion was covered over with green floral fabric (from curtains). I thought I could feel the original vinal seat under the curtain but I wasn't certain. I talked them down to $2 because it would take a lot of work to get it back in good shape. It took about 1 &1/2 hours to take appart the seat, remove the fabric, and scrub the vinyl. I was happy all the work payed off. After getting the fabric off, I found that a seam on the seat had ripped. I put duct tape on the underside of the vinyl for now. I may try to re-sew it from the inside, but not now.
The chair is solid (and I mean solid) oak. It is upolsterd with two colors of vinyl; creame and brown. The bend in the back legs, tilting forward of the front legs, and contoured seat give it a great modern look.

Arts and Crafts Movement Table; Midcentury Teak Bowls
I found this table at the goodwill outlet. It looked really crappy. The top was covered with a foe wood contact paper. I passed it buy twice not realizing what it was. Luckly the adhesive was pretty old and the paper came off easy. You can tell this table top was originally covered in leather and had brass tacks around the edge. It must have looked rather sharp. Right now the knotty pine top gives it a more rustic feel. Not bad for $10. The large teak bowl was $4 and the smaller one was $2.50, Both are carved from solid pieces of teak.
